Town Fixes Sign With 20-Year-Old Typo

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (March 8) - The city of Hagerstown corrected a municipal spelling error Thursday, 20 years after committing it. A sign directing drivers to "Municpal Stadium" was replaced with one displaying the proper spelling, Erik Kline, city traffic control supervisor, said.
The sign was first placed at the corner of Frederick Street and East Memorial Boulevard in the mid- to late 1908s, but the error went uncorrected until Hagerstown's Herald-Mail brought it to City Hall's attention this week, prompted by a reader's complaint.
Kline said the longtime tolerance for the misspelled sign doesn't reflect poorly on the western Maryland city of 38,000.
"I think it was a mistake that was made. I don't know that it necessarily makes us look bad," Kline said.

...ok, so they typo'ed 'Municipal' and fixed it "20 years later"...you'd think the writer of the article would have proofread and noticed that he/ she typed "placed at the corner of Frederick Street and East Memorial Boulevard in the mid- to late 1908s"
....1908's huh? ...fixed 20 years later, right?

Interstates Closed for Icy Conditions

Traffic on Interstate 80 in Columbia County remains a parking lot. It is so bad, in fact, that PennDOT has closed the interstate in both directions. It may be Friday morning before it reopens.
More than 24 hours since the storm ended Interstate 80 could be described as a disaster. The interstate is closed in both directions between the Lime Ridge exit (241) in Columbia County and the I-81/I-80 junction in Luzerne County. That's approximately 20 miles of interstate.
Interstate 81 is also closed in both directions between the Indiantown Gap exit (85) in Dauphin County and the Route 309 exit (165) in Luzerne County. That is 80 miles of interstate.
PennDOT is trying to get traffic off the interstate so crews can get on the highway to clear away ice and slush.
Near Berwick this morning there were at least two tractor-trailers jack-knifed that caused backups 15 to 20 miles long.
The traffic is slowly trying to clear on I-80 this evening. Once that is done PennDOT will send in crews and salt the road. Officials said they don't know how long that will take but it could be into Friday morning.
